DOMINICAN REPUBLIC YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

The Hal Trosky Foundation has established an education and training facility in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic. The purpose of this facility is to prepare kids for life on and off the field.

BACKGROUND: The Dominican Republic produces some of the world’s most talented athletes. Unfortunately, for every Dominican athlete who makes it to the big time, there are thousands of others who bet their entire future on making it too and didn’t. The mind-set of young Dominicans to forego their education, language skills, and financial literacy causes perpetual cycles of hope and hardship. With tourism being the dominant source of income for the country, having an English literacy rate below 10% is a limiting factor for many Dominicans.

TRUE HOPE: The Hal Trosky Foundation education and training facility is not just another baseball player farm. In addition to baseball training, young players receive regular instruction in English language proficiency, financial literacy, and character development. These life-tools set them up for meaningful careers in tourism and service industries, so they are able to build their communities and break the poverty cycle.

Contributions to the Hal Trosky Foundation make it possible to expand and maintain this education and training facility.
